Important Update
Beginning April 14, 2025, F&M Bank will no longer be able to assist clients by phone with setting up or changing Social Security direct deposit information. This change is the result of new guidelines from the Social Security Administration (SSA) aimed at protecting beneficiaries—especially older adults—from fraud.
To make any changes to your Social Security direct deposit, you will now need to:
- Visit your local Social Security office in person or
- Use the official my Social Security portal, which now requires two-factor authentication for added security.
According to the SSA, this update comes in response to a significant rise in fraud attempts via phone, with 40% of direct deposit fraud linked to phone requests.
